Cofton Holidays Shop Flooring
Cofton Holidays has opened its newly extended shop. We prepared the subfloor and fitted the new flooring throughout. It is the latest of several projects we have completed for the Cofton team over the past few years.
The Brief
Cofton extended its shop floor by around 50% and added a new steel-framed storage building. The old and new areas needed one floor that looked consistent and worked hard every day. Parts of the old floor needed careful preparation first.
Cofton Holidays Project Details
- Client: Cofton Holidays, Starcross, Devon
- Sector: Hospitality and retail
- Main floor: Plus Floor Vero Chevron Pompei LVT, 187 m²
- Safety flooring: Altro Walkway safety vinyl, 28.6 m² (R4 with R6 skirting)
- Entrance matting: Ribbed matting with mattwell frames, 7 m²
- Our scope: Subfloor preparation, supply and installation of floor coverings
Subfloor Preparation for Commercial LVT Flooring
Good flooring starts with the subfloor, and this one needed plenty of work.
- We primed the existing terrazzo tiles with a gritted primer over 125 m².
- We made good the join between the old store and the extension.
- We repaired scarring from old partitions and removed all adhesive residue across 187 m².
- We laid a low-stress latex levelling compound, up to 3mm thick, across 222 m² of new and old floor. This covers the bakery area and corridor.
This preparation gives the LVT a flat, stable base and a smooth finish.
Chevron LVT and Safety Vinyl for a High-Footfall Shop
We fitted Plus Floor Vero Chevron Pompei LVT across the main shop floor. The warm timber look suits the shop’s colour scheme. The chevron pattern also leads customers through the space, from the tills to the bakery and on to the gifts and clothing.
Some areas need extra grip so we fitted Altro Walkway safety vinyl in these zones, with matching skirting, and stopped it neatly at the doors. Ribbed entrance matting was also installed in mattwell frames to catch moisture and dirt at the doors.
Skirting, Trims and Finishing Details
We completed the job with cap and cove skirting around the perimeter, plus threshold and transition trims wherever the floor changes. These details make the floor look finished and protect the edges.
A Durable, Easy-Clean Floor for the New Cofton Shop
One continuous floor now runs through the extended shop. It looks smart, it is easy to clean and it gives customers safe grip where they need it.

Flooring matters and the whole team have been brilliant. From the moment myself & husband walked into the shop to pick the flooring out with Neil to when the guys came and did all prep work and laid the flooring has been excellent. The guys who did the flooring were absolutely brilliant! They took their time and prepped the flooring amazingly and didn’t realise the amount of prep work there was to do but wow the outcome is beautiful! It’s changed the whole downstairs of my home. Also my puppy and 4 year old kept annoying the guys but they didn’t seem to mind and loved having the attention 🤣

Had the herringbone tiles fitted in our lounge last year and returned again recently to have our bedroom done the same. Neil and the boys have done a fabulous job as usual and we are not disappointed. We would recommend Flooring Matters to anyone as they are fast, friendly and efficient and clean.

We went to visit their easily accessible shop at Heathfield where Neil talked us through the different vinyls & then visited our property within three days to measure it up. Very prompt response to my enquiry leading to a personal visit by a Director to view my project which was non-industrial. I was impressed by Andy's interest in my small project to clad the internal walls of my garage with Altro. I had had previous experience of Altro when involved in projects in the pharmaceutical industry, and felt it would be ideal to present a bright, clean, easily maintained wall surface to convert my single garage into a smart, neat, attractive restoration studio and workshop. The final result from Andy's team was outstanding and has more than met my expectations. The installers were polite and experienced and tackled the occasional difficulty such as my domestic power supply being underpowered for their forming machine. This was effectively dealt with in a friendly and positive manner and was successful. Thank you team. When I finally have other trades complete the works, I will happily supply photographs of the finished work.

Negotiated a great deal with my team fitting the floors. Our entire bungalow now has this gorgeous flooring. We have a few rugs but mostly just like to see the grain effect. It's been great with the animals too.
Neil also gave me advice on what glue and trowels to use. Excellent customer service despite knowing he wasn't going to fit.

Citizens Advice Torbay (CAT) is a local independent charity. We celebrate 85 years of serving our community this year and we decided to mark this anniversary by refurbishing our very tired premises in Paignton. Flooring Matters responded to our plea for help and provided new floor covering throughout our offices. It has given our Citizens Advice Centre a new lease of life and the different colours and patterns used in each room are fresh and vibrant. Led by Maisie Williams, Social Housing Project Manager and her team the work was wholly completed with commercial off cuts and unused flooring tiles. Not only does this contribute to their sustainability objectives but delivers a community project that will change the working experience for our volunteers and provide a warm welcome for our clients. We recently had Flooring Matters lay new ULT flooring for us following the removal of some internal walls in our house. From start to finish the responsiveness, attention to detail and the level of professionalism was exceptional. Our job was a bit difficult requiring a "matching up" of the new flooring and an existing carpet. The installers Sturt & Tory were incredible reflecting those same attributes as Flooring Matters. We did a competitive tendering process and although Flooring Matters were more expensive it was well worth paying that little bit extra to get the outcome we have. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Flooring Matters if you have a ULT flooring requirement.
