Wood Floor Restoration Service

Wood Floor Restoration

Restoration means something different to every homeowner. For some, it’s a floor they’ve just found under old carpet. For others, it’s tired old floorboards crying out for new life. Whatever “restoration” means for your home, Flooring Matters SW Ltd can help. We restore original floorboards and bring neglected wood floors back to life across Devon, using expert sanding and refinishing to reveal what’s really there.

What Does Wood Floor Restoration Involve?

Most restoration projects start the same way: an old, dull, or hidden floor that needs expert attention to look its best again. Our team begins with a free site survey. We take a close look at your floor and talk through what’s realistic before any work begins. From there, sanding and refinishing does the heavy lifting. It strips back years of wear and brings the natural character of the wood back to the surface.

Found a Wooden Floor Worth Saving?

Plenty of period homes across Devon are hiding something special under old carpet or vinyl. Victorian terraces, Edwardian cottages, and old farmhouses often have original floorboards tucked away beneath later coverings. If you’ve pulled up worn carpet and found a wood floor underneath, you’re not alone — it’s one of the most common ways a restoration project begins. Once you’ve found it, we take it from there, helping you restore original floorboards to their former beauty through sanding and refinishing.

Restoring Tired or Neglected Floors

Some floors don’t need uncovering — they just need attention. Years of foot traffic, scratches, and old finishes can leave a wood floor looking dull and worn. Restoration in this sense is really our wood floor sanding service in action. The process strips back the surface, smooths out wear, and reveals the grain and colour of the wood beneath. A fresh coat of stain, oil, or lacquer finishes the job.

Restoring Character in Period Properties

Older floors carry a character that’s worth preserving. Original pine boards, parquet, and herringbone laid decades ago tend to have patina, knots, and wear marks that newer floors simply don’t have. Our approach to restoration respects that character. Sanding and refinishing brings the wood back to life without sanding away the personality that makes a period floor special.

Restoring Parquet and Herringbone Floors

Parquet and herringbone floors bring their own restoration challenges. Loose blocks, dulled finishes, and tired patterns are common in older installations. Sanding and refinishing the whole surface evens everything out and restores the floor’s original pattern and shine. It’s a specialist job, and one our team has plenty of experience with.
