We at Flooring Matters are excited to share our incredible success at the Contract Flooring Journal Awards. The event took place on Friday, September 6 2024, at the prestigious Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire. It was a standout occasion, often called the Oscars of the Flooring Industry, and a momentous day for our team.

Expertly hosted by renowned comedian Hal Cruttenden, the awards celebrated the best in contract flooring. We were proud to be part of it.

The day was filled with laughter, recognition, and celebration. It was one of the most memorable awards yet and a fantastic chance to connect with industry leaders.

We were thrilled to take centre stage. Partnering with top names like Altro, IVC Commercial, Genesis Global Systems, Tremco, and TLC by Mercado, we proudly won the Flooring in Bars & Restaurants Award for our work at VIVA Bar Torquay.

But the success didn’t stop there. We also secured the Installation of the Year Award, confirming our leadership in the field.

To top it off, we took home the Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award, recognising our commitment to eco-conscious innovation and environmental responsibility.

Director Andy Law couldn’t attend; he was running the Transalpine across the Alps! But Commercial Manager Charles Mitchell and our admin team proudly accepted the awards and celebrated this amazing achievement.

This recognition means the world to us. We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of excellence in flooring.

CFJ/CFA Award 2024 for Flooring in Bars, Cafes & Restaurants and Installation of the year

We’ve had the pleasure of working with East Street Pub Company on several projects, but VIVA was our biggest and most exciting yet. Located on the picturesque Torquay Harbour, VIVA has a rich past; as a fish & chip shop and later a well-known nightclub at the heart of the community. Our client set out to transform it into a destination for both locals and tourists, blending modern design with subtle nods to its history.

This was no small task. The new owners envisioned a bustling street food restaurant on the ground floor and a lively Games Zone above. The space needed more than just a great look, it required flooring that could handle the demands of a busy hospitality venue.

Our job was to deliver flooring that was stylish and durable. It had to stand up to heavy foot traffic, spills, and daily wear while keeping the sleek, welcoming look that defines the venue’s atmosphere.

VIVA’s transformation has breathed new life into a weathered building. Now, it’s a vibrant place to eat, drink, and play, with stunning views of Torquay Harbour. We’re proud to have played a role in this incredible makeover, supplying high-performance flooring that supports both the venue’s design and its diverse uses.

CFJ/CFA Award 2024 for Sustainability initiative of the year

The transformation of Viva Restaurant, Bar, and Games Zone in Torquay put sustainability at its core. Key choices, like keeping the existing subfloor and using adhesive-free floor coverings, helped reduce the project’s environmental impact. Retaining the subfloor cut down on waste, saved resources, and avoided the need for new materials.

Using adhesive-free flooring and water-based adhesives also reduced VOC emissions, improving indoor air quality. This made the space healthier for workers and future guests while following sustainability best practices. It also sped up installation, saving energy and lowering the project’s carbon footprint.

We chose durable, recyclable materials like Altro XpressLay and IVC XtraFloor Flex Pro underlay. These options not only extended the life of the floors but also made recycling easier at the end of use, demonstrating a strong commitment to eco-friendly, responsible design.
