What We Did
The Project
In October 2020, we worked with Bear Town Devon to install over 600m² of high-performance flooring. The project was for a new indoor playzone near Cullompton. Created by the team behind The Bear Trail, the space was designed to resemble a miniature street. Children could explore, learn, and role-play in a safe and immersive environment.
Award-Winning Results
This project earned us national recognition, winning Best Flooring in a Visitor Attraction at the CFJ/CFA Awards 2021. The award celebrated both our technical expertise and our ability to deliver safe, creative spaces for families.
Flooring that works for every space
Tailored Flooring Solutions
To meet the diverse needs of the space, we selected a range of durable and safe floor coverings:
- We laid Altro Walkway throughout the themed rooms and circulation areas.
- In the café, we installed Altro Wood for a natural, welcoming feel.
- The kitchen required maximum slip resistance, so we chose Altro Stronghold.
- Heckmondwicke Supercord carpet provided a practical finish in staff areas.
- Bright Polyfloor Bloc added fun and vibrancy to key feature zones.
Each product was chosen to support safety, ease of maintenance, and the immersive experience Bear Town wanted to create.
Expert Subfloor Preparation
A full moisture test was carried out on the newly poured Anhydrite subfloor. Once confirmed dry, the surface laitance was ground back, then primed with F Ball 121 Primer and levelled using F Ball 1100 Gypsum Screed. Where walls had been removed or levels were uneven, we deep-filled with chippings and screed to ensure a smooth, level base.
Design-Led Detailing
We advised on layout features, including cutting and welding white road lines into the safety vinyl. This detail added both realism and durability to the play street concept.
Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability remains at the heart of our work. As members of UK Sustainable Flooring Alliance (formerly Carpet Recycling UK) and Recofloor, we’re proud to say that 0% of vinyl waste from this project went to landfill. All waste was properly separated and recycled.
Continued Success – i-Town, Newton Abbot
Following the success of Bear Town, we were commissioned to complete a similar installation for i-Town, an indoor roleplay village in Newton Abbot. This project further cemented our reputation for delivering creative, safe, and sustainable flooring solutions for visitor attractions.
